The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Musicus Heritage Stories – Rejoice, the Autumnal Feast

(10 July 2026, Hong Kong) On 29–30 August, Musicus Society presents four performances at the Hong Kong News-Expo (HKNE). Located in the historic Bridges Street market in Sheung Wan, dating from 1953, the HKNE bears witness to the bustling everyday life of the local community. Scheduled shortly after the Start of Autumn (liqiu), this concert series coincides with the season of harvest and reunion. In times past, Hongkongers would visit this market to prepare for festive family meals, including those for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Soon, this very same place will be filled with live chamber music, while historical newspaper clippings featuring mooncake advertisements and other festival imagery guide the audience through time. The program is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
Musicus Artistic Director and renowned cellist Trey Lee leads emerging homegrown musicians, Jeremy Hao and Wong Pui-ying on violin, Martin Kuo on viola, and Winnie Lau on double bass. These four young talented musicians are all awardees of Musicus’ Young Artist Audition. They will perform classical works by Vivaldi, Beethoven, and Copland, each embodying the spirit of the autumnal feast. Together, they trace the rhythms of gathering, from the contemplative to the festive.
In addition to the concerts, Musicus has invited We Toast HK, a local history research group, to curate a small exhibition. Through newspaper archive clippings, the exhibition explores the cultural significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival, revealing the community spirit behind it. Guided heritage tours will also be available after the concerts, inviting audiences to discover more about the history of the site and its surrounding community.

About Musicus Heritage
Since 2013, Musicus Society has presented the Musicus Heritage community concert series at local historic sites in order to celebrate Hong Kong’s history through music. About Hong Kong News-Expo
Hong Kong News-Expo (HKNE) is housed inside the former Bridges Street Market at No. 2, Bridges Street in Central, Hong Kong Island. The heritage building was among the first batch of public markets built after World War II and was opened in 1953.
The building sits partly on the former site of the American Congregational Mission Preaching Hall, where Dr Sun Yat-sen was baptized in the 1880s. In 2013, under Batch III of the Revitalizing Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme, the Journalism Education Foundation Hong Kong Limited was granted the right to revitalize the property into the first exhibition-cum-education facility in Asia with news as the main theme.
With a total floor area of about 10,000 square feet, Hong Kong News-Expo, opened on 5 December 2018. Its exhibits chronicle the evolution of Hong Kong’s news media, present the city’s political, economic and social transformations through contemporary news reports and demonstrate the importance of the free flow of information as a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s success.
