Promote Cross-cultural Collaboration of Music Internationally

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Musicus Heritage Stories – Echoes of the Harvest

10.08.2026
(8 October 2026, Hong Kong) On 7–8 November, Musicus Society will present Echoes of the Harvest, a series of five chamber music performances at the Law Ting Pong Scout Centre in Tai Po. Built in 1907 as the District Office North, this red-brick landmark has for over a century served an evolving local community heavily shaped by harvest and trade. Once a government office, the space will soon be filled with chamber music telling poignant stories of the land. The program is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

World-class Virtuoso and Top Local Talents Perform Earth-inspired Classics
Curated by Artistic Director and cellist Trey Lee, the concerts feature Fedor Rudin, former concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic, leading a string ensemble of six elite young local musicians. Together, they will perform Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, depicting the subtle flow of the agricultural year; Dvořák’s “American” String Quintet, rustic and warm; and Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, pulsing with raw resilience and vibrant folk heritage. For Artistic Director Trey Lee, placing these works in a historical space allows audiences to experience classical music as a living celebration of the land.

Exploring Local Agricultural Legacy and Guided Heritage Tours
In addition to the concerts, Musicus Society has partnered with the curatorial team Gift from Land to display local rice varieties, honoring Tai Po’s deep-rooted agricultural legacy. Each concert is followed by a Guided Heritage Tour.

About Musicus Heritage
Since 2013, Musicus Society has presented the Musicus Heritage community concert series at local historic sites in order to celebrate Hong Kong’s history through music. The series also provides opportunities for young Hong Kong musicians to elevate their artistry by collaborating with internationally renowned artists.

This hugely popular series has received support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust since 2019 and was recognized in the 2022 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases, organized by the World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for Asia and the Pacific under the auspices of UNESCO. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Musicus Heritage Stories is now a comprehensive yearly program, encompassing thematic concerts, open rehearsals, guided tours of heritage sites, master classes, school visits, and ambassador sharing sessions. By combining classical music with heritage stories and engaging the community through various educational projects, it encourages the public to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hong Kong’s history and culture.

About Law Ting Pong Scout Centre
The building of Law Ting Pong Scout Centre was formerly the District Office North. It was built around 1907 and was the earliest seat of the civil administration of the newly-leased New Territories. Administration and land registration of the northern part of the New Territories were carried out in this building. It was also the responsibility of the District Office to handle court cases relating to local disputes. Until 1961, the building still housed a magistrate’s court. The building ceased to be an office for civil administration in 1983. From 1988 to 2000, it was used as the Tai Po Office of the Environmental Protection Department, and since 2002, it has been the Law Ting Pong Scout Centre for the New Territories East Region of Scout Association of Hong Kong, acting as the primary center for administration, training, and conference for the region.

The building and its surrounding area were listed as declared monuments in 1981.
