This work is written for T. T. Tsui Building of the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong, where the piece received its world première. The vast white gallery walls, capable of mounting artworks of variable sizes, styles, origins and eras, inspired Wong to capture its vastness and congeniality in his music. The immense wall is represented by musical time and space. A static background with subtly changing time creates a horizontal space, while rhapsodic passages and airy sounds juxtaposing on top and below the background create a vertical space. Just like the white wall’s capability to display all sorts of artworks, traces of different kinds of music from Japanese gagaku to western contemporary can be found in the music.
