Stowaway─Wall─Passer-by

Tai Kwun, the site of the former Victoria Prison (built in 1841) is a historical relic of more than a century. Following the end of Vietnam War in 1975, numerous Vietnamese fled their country. In 1979, Hong Kong became the first port of asylum for the Boat People. Many smugglers were investigated, screened, and classified in Victoria Prison. The Boat People who did not meet the conditions of political refugees were transferred from Victoria Prison to the ships repatriating them. Stowaway─Wall─Passer-by is inspired by the imprisoned Vietnamese who migrated to Hong Kong illegally. I want to portray their complicated mood through music:

Stowaway: The smuggler missed his hometown in a prison of a strange city; but he yearned for a new home in the other shore after becoming a refugee.

Wall: Imagine that Hong Kong, known as the Pearl of the Orient, was outside the high prison walls, but he was trapped inside another four walls.

Passer-by: He worried about his hometown and he felt he let his family down. The imaginary new home on the other shore also made him infinitely disappointed but he had no choice but to become a passer-by in Hong Kong.
