Breguet's Celebration of Excellence Chamber Music Gala: The Garden of Earthly Delights

  • Date & Time
    25 Nov 2016 (Fri) 8:00pm
  • Venue
    Hong Kong City Hall Theatre
The Garden of Earthly Delights is Dutch master painter Hieronymous Bosch’s most celebrated work. The 500th anniversary of his death turns the spotlight on the artist and, in particular, on this singular work that has stirred astonishment and controversy ever since its creation. The Musicus Fest Chamber Music Gala pays tribute to this incomparable artistic achievement with works that resonate with the three realms depicted in the painting: Heaven (or Paradise), Earth and Hell. Heaven and Hell are conjured up in Schubert’s Lieder, while the audience will be uplifted by Liszt’s Angelus for String Quintet. The rest of the evening’s program centers around the temptations and tumult of Earth, with Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night)about a relationship wrecked by infidelity, and Franck’s Piano Quintet, the première of which created a scandal when the composer’s friend Saint-Saëns stormed off stage.
