For their overseas debut, Musicus Soloists Hong Kong (MSHK) performed in three “Bauhaus @Hong Kong” concerts in Weimar and Berlin, Germany. This video contains excerpts from their performance at the Bauhaus Museum Weimar.

MSHK artistic director and cellist Trey Lee led these emerging artists to meet international audiences in quintessential German musical cities to collaborate with acclaimed local musicians, tracing musical and Bauhaus design connections between Germany and Hong Kong. Before the performance, Trey Lee also introduced the influence of the Bauhaus seen in Hong Kong architecture with architect and President of Bauhaus University Weimar Peter Benz, who had held teaching and directorial positions in Hong Kong, as moderator.

The composers chosen for the concert were all trailblazers in classical and 20th century music, sharing a spirit for innovation like the founders of the Bauhaus movement, in which originality was most readily observable in architecture and design. Some of these visual vocabularies were also found in Hong Kong, in buildings like the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Hong Kong City Hall, residences on Kadoorie Hill, Tang Lung Chau Market in Causeway Bay, Choi Hung Estate in Ngau Chi Wan and Garden Centre in Sham Shui Po.

Listen also to MSHK members Hannah Tam and Dominic Law share their thoughts on visiting and performing in these musical cities.
