Musicus Society artistic director and cellist Trey Lee recounts the conception of the Musicus Heritage series, now in a new phase known as the Jockey Club Musicus Heritage Stories and made possible with continued funding support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. In Year 1 of the three-year project, “Perseverance” is the theme and reminder for us to draw on the past to have a better outlook of life at present. The unique initiative to incorporate other art forms in our concerts is also outlined. 
 
In Tai Kwun, the former prison cells echo the hardships faced by composers like Messiaen, and a near-forgotten prison chapel inspires a young composer's new composition, while traditional Canton porcelain paintings at Tao Fong Shan play a key role in recognizing craftsmanship and the history of the sanctuary’s unique East-meets-West architecture style.
