03.26.2018

Where superb chamber music transcends and invigorates

(March 26, 2018) In collaboration with the time-honored Kuhmo Chamber Music of Finland, the Musicus Society’s Musicus Heritage Community Concert Series begins with a chamber music rendezvous featuring outstanding artists from Finland and Hong Kong. Musicus Society’s Artistic Director and international cellist Trey Lee will be joined by esteemed violinist Minna Pensola and violist Vladimir Mendelssohn, violinist-pedagogue Gian Paolo Peloso, as well as award-winning Hong Kong pianist Rachel Cheung and violinist Hannah Tam, in two concerts presented at Xiang Hai Xuan of the Nan Lian Garden on 15 May 2018.
Nan Lian Garden

Awakening Hong Kong’s history with music

As one of the signature programs of the Musicus Society, the Musicus Heritage Community Concert Series brings overseas and local artists to unique heritage sites in refreshingly themed chamber music concerts. Entitled Dances and Fairy Tales, the upcoming heritage concerts (planned by Kuhmo Chamber Music Artistic Artistic Director Vladimir Mendelssohn) showcase the music of Dvořák, Bartók and Sibelius, which are fitting complements to the ethereal ambiance of Nan Lian Garden. Finnish violinist Minna Pensola joins Rachel Cheung in a fine selection of chamber vignettes by Sibelius, giving the audience a distinctive taste of the Nordic flavor. Violin prodigy Hannah Tam enchants the audience with the pungent Romanian dances by Bartok in the first concert, while Artistic Director Trey Lee evokes the magic of rustic Bohemia in Dvořák’s Silent Woods in the second one. In addition to these opaque gems, the beloved piano chamber pieces by Schumann and Brahms will be the handpicked centerpieces in each of the two concerts.
