Born in Jiangxi, China, Wei Ningyi entered The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to further his study under Prof. Michael Ma in 2009 with scholarships. He has recently completed his Master of Music degree at the Academy.

As first Prize winner of the Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld 1st International String Competition (Chamber Music Division) and Fourth Prize winner of the Canetti International Violin Competition in Turkey, Wei toured with the Asian Youth Orchestra in 2012 to perform in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Japan.

Wei has appeared at Musicus Fest with the Gloucester String Quartet in the Musicus Heritage Community Concert Series, and performed alongside with world-renowned violinist Pekka Kuusisto in Musicus Fest 2016.

He plays an 1839 Giuseppe Baldantoni violin, on loan from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
