The Mantua Chamber Orchestra (OCM) was founded in 1981 and has proven to have technical brilliance, great attention to style and a constant search for sound quality. In 1997, the Italy’s National Association of Music Critics awarded the orchestra a “Franco Abbiati” prize, Italy’s most distinguished music awards, for its “unique stylistic refinement, which merges Italian instrumental tradition and classical repertoire”. The OCM resides at Teatro Bibiena in Mantua, which is an authentic jewel of architecture and acoustics.
The OCM has been performing in Italy and abroad for over 30 years with world-renowned conductors and soloists, some of these include Gidon Kremer, Joshua Bell, Salvatore Accardo, Mischa Maisky, and the unforgettable Astor Piazzola, to name a few.
In the last two decades, the orchestra has launched several important artist cycles of selected works by Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn and Schumann. has recorded for several television and radio programs such as RAI, Bayerischer Rundfunk and the Swiss RSTI. In 2009, the OCM recorded three of Haydn’s symphonies, on commission by the most important Italian musical magazine, Amadeus. The OCM has also recorded two well-appreciated CDs with the pianist Angela Hewitt dedicated to Mozart’s piano concertos, published by Hyperion in 2011.
