Denise Mei Yan Hofmann started playing guitar at 10, but only decided to pursue music seriously after graduating from Middlebury College in 2011.
She received her M.M. from Mannes College of Music in New York and her music has been played at the National Opera Center, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, The Spectrum and Mannes College of Music, the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore, HellHOT Music Festival in Hong Kong and the International Dance Festival in Bangkok .
Hofmann arranged the jazz standard Georgia On My Mind for the Johnny Rodgers Band, which was performed by the Moscow Symphony string section in June 2013 and she also wrote the incidental music for the New York production of Harriman-Baines at the Theatre for the New City. In 2014 she was commissioned by the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild to compose a trio for ‘SOUND-IMAGination: Hong Kong Postcards’, which premiered in December of the same year at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
In 2016, she was awarded residency at the Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts and received the Mannes College Dean’s Award.
