Promote Cross-cultural Collaboration of Music Internationally

Musicus Fest 2015 celebrates and looks to the future

12.08.2015
Hong Kong, December 8, 2015 –The curtain has come down on Musicus Fest 2015 with organizers heralding its success and praising the support of its international array of musicians, its sponsors and – of course – the audiences who thrilled to the experience of classical music at its most refined.

With the generous support of leading global financial services company Credit Suisse as Festival Lead Partner this year, Musicus Fest was held between November 25 and 29, with seven concerts, starting with two intimate chamber music concerts followed by Breguet’s Celebration of Excellence Festival Opening Concert on November 27 by the famed London Chamber Orchestra. The stage was set for a cross-cultural celebration of music as it was shared by masters and rising stars including the likes of Festival Artistic Director Trey Lee, Bruno Canino and Hong Kong’s very own Rachel Cheung.

The Festival drew to a close on November 29 with thunderous applause that marked a Finale which featured Mozart’s much-loved Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter”, showcasing the London Chamber Orchestra joined by outstanding local young players at the last movement.  The concert opened with Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto, featuring Trey Lee and Elena Cheah, and Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin and Piano by Dong-Suk Kang and Colleen Lee.

“We were delighted with this year’s festival which not only showcased some of the classical music world’s greats, but also gave some of Hong Kong’s rising stars a chance to learn from them, and even to share the spotlight,” said Trey Lee.

On November 28, the festival featured Musicus Heritage community concerts sponsored by Credit Suisse – a unique musical tour of the Former Marine Police Headquarters – now known as Hullet House and part of Heritage 1881 – which showcased compositions by the rising stars of the Hong Kong music scene and were inspired by Hullet House itself.

“Musicus goes from strength to strength and we very much look forward to returning with a new edition in 2016 and to continuing our mission to expand the international music landscape.” said Trey Lee.
